QANTAS FLYING WHEN PREGNANT

After 28 weeks, you need to carry a certificate or letter from a registered medical practitioner or registered midwife confirming:
- the estimated date of delivery
- whether it is a single or multiple pregnancy
- that your pregnancy is routine and that there are no complications.
The certificate or letter must be available on request and be carried with you at the airport and during the flight in your cabin baggage. If you do have complications with your pregnancy, medical clearance is also required.
Flights of 4 hours duration or greater
For routine pregnancies, you can travel up to the end of the 36th week for single pregnancies and the end of the 32nd week for multiple pregnancies (e.g. twins).
Flights of less than 4 hours duration
For routine pregnancies, you can travel up to the end of the 40th week for single pregnancies and the end of the 36th week for multiple pregnancies.
Note: Qantas and this site don't represent that travel is safe for you at any particular point during your pregnancy. You must seek advice from your own medical practitioner before your flight. The periods referred to above are only the Qantas minimum requirements.
Country specific requirements for pregnant customers
Some countries place limitations on the entry of non-national pregnant women. It's best to check with the local consulate to confirm their country specific requirements.
QANTAS NEWBORN POLICY
Medical clearance is needed if you're travelling within 7 days of your delivery date. Infants cannot travel for 48 hours after delivery and need medical clearance to travel between 3 and 7 days after delivery.
Healthy newborn babies may travel after seven days of delivery without medical clearance. We don't recommend you travel within this time. If you need to travel within seven days of delivery, you'll need to get Qantas medical clearance by completing our medical travel clearance form (PDF) and emailing it to Qantas special handling.
FLYING WITH BABY POLICY (INFANTS UNDER 2 YEARS OLD)
Lap infants and infants with their own seat.
International travel
For international services, infants must have their own ticket.
All infants booked online are booked without a seat and must travel either in the lap of the adult travelling with them or be placed in the bassinet if available when permitted during flight.
If preferred, you can choose a Seat with Bassinet in advance online, so you and your family can travel together in more comfort.
Domestic travel
On domestic services, infants can travel on their parent or guardian's tickets when sitting on their lap. Infants must be booked on their own ticket if they require their own seat.
Travelling with more than one infant
When booking online, there is a limit of one infant per adult booked. If you need to book an infant with a seat or book travel that involves more infants than adults, please contact Qantas to make your booking. When more than one infant travels with one adult, each additional infant must occupy a seat and be able to sit upright without assistance or travel in an approved child car seat or restraint.

Infants who become children while travelling
If your child turns 12, or your infant turns 2, after travel has commenced, Qantas will allow you to use the ticket at the reduced fare within its validity. To book please call your local Qantas office.

QANTAS CAR SEAT POLICY
Child car seats can be carried onboard most Qantas and QantasLink flights and secured to an aircraft seat if approved by Qantas prior to travel. Approval can't be obtained at the airport. Infants will need to be booked with a seat by contacting your local Qantas office to make the booking (infants booked online are booked as lap infants without a seat).
Child car seats must have at least one the following relevant certifications:

The following information can be used as a guide:
- Forward facing child restraint systems for infants and children weighing between 9 and 18 kgs (20lbs and 40lbs).
- Rear facing child restraint systems for infants weighing under 9kgs (20lbs) (although some seats may be certified to carry children of greater weight). Rear facing seats are generally large and may not fit in Economy seats or only selected seats. Rear facing seats are permitted without an attachment base only if certified by the manufacturer as suitable for installation in aircraft seats without the base. You will need to contact your local Qantas office to make arrangements for the seat.
For children over the age of four or over 18kgs (40lbs) and/or over 100cm tall – an aircraft seat is recommended.
All restraints must be in good condition, show no signs of damage and be fitted to the aircraft seat in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions by the responsible adult travelling with the child.
Booster seats are prohibited on Qantas aircraft. A booster could be simple cushion or a shell base, back with side wings, and does not contain a built in harness. It only enhances the positioning of the seat's harness on the child.
Seat allocation for use of car seats and child restraint systems is restricted, and availability may vary by aircraft type. Not all aircraft and all cabins are able to accommodate car seats and child restraint systems, particularly those that require the use of a top tether point. Please call Qantas to check before you book.
Car seats can't be located in an aisle seat or in an exit row. If there are two responsible adults travelling with a child, and the allocated child car seat is in the centre aisle, then the two responsible adults must be seated on either side, adjacent to the child car seat.
While Qantas make every effort to carry passengers in pre-assigned seating, seating is subject to change for operational, safety or security reasons, even after boarding.
Other Child Restraint Device Policies
The Child Aviation Restraint System (CARES) is an approved alternative to car seats. This harness style restraint device is suitable for a child weighing 10-20kg (22-44lb) whose height is 100cm (40 in) or less and who is capable of sitting upright alone. It's required to be fitted to the aircraft seat by the responsible adult travelling with the child. Find out more about the CARES system.
Customers are responsible for supplying their own car seat or child restraint system. Pre-approval for the use of a child seat can be organised with your local Qantas office. We recommend you contact us to make your booking at least 7 days prior to your intended travel date, as pre-approval must be finalised at least 24 hours before departure. You'll also need to show your device to our airport staff on the day of travel, including at check-in.
QANTAS PUSHCHAIR/ STROLLER POLICY
To make your time on the ground easier, most mainline Australian airports have strollers available for you to use once you have checked-in your own personal stroller. Staff will be on hand at the boarding gate ready to collect the stroller and to further assist you with pre-boarding the aircraft.
QANTAS BASSINET POLICY
Does Qantas supply a bassinet/carrycot?
Seat with Bassinet is available for a charge for customers travelling in international Economy and is complimentary for customers travelling internationally in First, Business or Premium Economy on flights operated by an A380 or A330 aircraft.

What happens if I don't reserve a bassinet/carrycot seat?

Help settle your kids inflight with the Joey Club art studio interactive colouring game, featuring all of our characters, including Matilda the kangaroo and Queenie the emu.
Kids can choose to colour an iconic scene at a Qantas destination such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Hollywood sign in LA, New York's skyline or London's Big Ben. Keep a look out for the game, on aircraft with seat-back entertainment systems.
Inflight kids' kits
Qantas new complimentary kids' kits are here to help keep children (3 to 6 years) entertained onboard. The new kits include an aircraft window shaped etch-a-sketch and activity booklet in a zip-lock bag.
